Rockreation

The boys all completed a rock climbing course and the merit badge at a local indoor facility this year. Here Miky is scaling one of the walls. Climbing requires a combination of stamina, coordination, and muscle tone to work up the prescribed route of toe and hand holds. Safety is the essential requirement in learning to climb and the folks at Rockreation are the best. Our troop was complimented multiple times by the staff for their attention and willingness to follow instruction.

I'm an assistant scoutmaster in a troop that is planning on starting the Climbing merit badge next week. Do you have any tips? How many nights/climbs did you take to complete the badge?

Bryan -- Thank you for visiting our page and for your questions. The very easiest way for us was to use the Rockreation indoor climbing center. We were guided by professionals, able to get all the equipment rented there and had a wonderful time. We have been back several times after we completed the badge just for fun and will go again. Find a local climbing center and let them do the merit badge for you. We followed the book and the requirements and it went very well!

Good luck and enjoy!
